PhD Title

Lions Grazing on Dragon’s Land: How do South African Enterprises Establish Long-term Success of Their Business Operations in China?

Supervisors

Prof. Christopher M. Dent and Dr. Sierk Horn

Research Study

Sino-African relations have increasingly drawn attention from international relations studies in the last decade with particular emphasis being placed on the international political economy, whereas studies from an international business dimension seem to have been neglected. Although some studies attempt to examine the international business relations between China and Africa, most tend to concentrate on China’s engagement in Africa.

My research study, bearing in mind the thriving China-South African relations, will explore various business issues of South African companies operating in China, in an attempt to discern and establish the main factors which will determine the long-term success of South African companies operating in the mainland Chinese market.

Background

I received my master degree of Chinese Business & Asian Pacific from the University of Leeds in 2007. Before and after that I was involved in several business projects both in China and South Africa. I started my PhD studies in early 2010.
