About Dr Jieyu Liu

Dr Liu gained her PhD from the University of York, and was Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Glasgow before taking up her present post. Trained as a feminist sociologist, Dr Liu specialises in sociology of gender with a regional focus on China and other East Asian societies. She has published widely on gender, sexuality and socio-economic development in China.

 

Ongoing Research

  • August 2010-Jan 2011 on study leave; February 2011-May 2012 Principal Investigator for an ESRC funded project on ageing in rural China;
  • Principal Investigator for a British Academy funded research project examining the sexualization and aestheticization of white-collar work in urban China;
  • Working on a research monograph on gender and organizational changes in China;
  • Writing papers on gender, sexuality and inequality in the Chinese workplaces;
  • Writing papers on unemployment and welfare reforms in China.
